Getting Started with SPC in Power BI

A quick introduction to Statistical Process Control charts and how to create your first one in Power BI using EasySPC.

Statistical Process Control (SPC) is one of the most reliable ways to understand performance over time. By plotting data on a control chart and applying statistically calculated limits, you can quickly see whether changes are due to normal variation or something that needs investigation.

    Why SPC matters

Traditional dashboards often hide what's actually happening in a process. SPC charts replace gut feel with evidence: they show the natural range of variation and highlight the points where something genuinely unusual has occurred.

    Creating your first chart

With EasySPC you can build a Power BI SPC chart in three steps:

    • Drop your time field and measure into the visual.
    • Use the chart selection wizard to pick the right chart type for your data.
    • Apply a template to inherit your team's standard formatting.

Once your chart is on the page, EasySPC automatically calculates the mean and control limits and flags any points showing special cause variation.

    Where to go next

Once you're comfortable with one chart, try setting a target line, exploring different chart types, and building a baseline so you can measure the impact of process changes over time.
